Not A Blog About Our Dog Who Loves Lettuce

May 13, 2022

A couple of months ago, Pearl our then-7-month-old Golden Retriever (WHO LOVES LETTUCE) gave birth to 6 puppies due to an "accident" that happened during the time we got hit by Omicron. All  the puppies are purebred, but couldn't get papers to certify them due to the early age of the dam (mother). The harrowing experience my family endured had led to something seemingly beautiful. Something beautiful that couldn't be "certified" on paper.

All puppies were given away as a gift to family or friends who had some room for a little more happiness in their homes. Friends and family who knew that what they got were purebred Golden Retriever puppies. No questions were asked about the breed although some of them never saw both parents.

This is trust that supersedes any paper written by anyone or any group.

Fast forward to this week, the Philippines had just elected the 17th President of the nation to lead the country out of the woods of the pandemic as the variants of Covid get seemingly milder. He will be carrying on his shoulder TRILLIONS of debt from the past administrations of a bleeding nation.

For those reading abroad, BBM is the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who was ousted by the People for crimes against the nation. These are facts written on books and articles in and out of the country. Facts that are on the brink of being deleted from the memories of people who need to be educated.

The education system has seemed to have failed in establishing a good foundation of the strength of the nation: of how painfully it endured years under a dictatorship which led to a beautiful show of nationalism by millions during the Edsa Revolt to dethrone him and his family. And like a tree planted on shallow unhealthy soil, the natural resilience of the human spirit and intellect will cling to something it can get it roots on deep. In this case, sadly, it is social media. The weak foundation crumbled when it could not be trusted, when it kept people at the status quo without improvements in their lives. These people clinged to the truths -no matter how bent- available to them.

Now what?

Now is the time to swallow the bitter pill and realize that the decades leading up to today, it was every man for himself and the lack of accountability of those who we have entrusted to pass these truths of the past can only be blamed on the lack of eyes on them. Education is an enormous responsibility. Without it, a struggling nation such as ours has no place to go.

We must trust our knowledge of history so that we never go through the same experiences again.

Like our friends who promised to take care of the puppies they adopted, we have to be steadfast in our knowledge of the past. If being confident a puppy is purebred without papers, then i guess holding the knowledge of the past cannot be erased from our books or from our history that easily.

My wife and I are now blessed with two beautiful kids who literally trust us with their lives. Two kids we will educate with the experiences our countrymen had endured and the lessons born from it.

It is in our nature as conscious beings, to wonder why some things are the way they are-- this starts in early infancy and carries on with us until our time is up.

CC, our toddler has been growing as fast as any toddler should. She speaks clearer, runs faster, understands better by the day, and her daily routine can only provide so much stimulation for a mind that is at its peak (scientifically proven!) in our little ones lifetime.
